The Israeli summer invariably brings along the nuisance known as mosquitoes—or more accurately, female mosquitoes. Unfortunately, these blood-sucking insects inject their saliva into our skin during a bite. This saliva contains a mixture of anti-coagulants and vasodilators to allow uninterrupted feeding. The subsequent itching sensation is actually our immune system reacting to the foreign proteins introduced into our bloodstream, not to mention potential pathogen transmission from certain species.

The German Heat Technology

Germans have relied for years on a proven patent for neutralizing insect bites using heat. The underlying principle is simple: localized heating breaks down the foreign proteins injected by the mosquito, thereby relieving the itch. While such small heat-based devices have long been available in German drugstores, a high-tech version of this patent called Heat it is now being sold in Israel.

This is a tiny dongle, roughly the size of a headphone adapter, which draws power from your smartphone's USB-C port to heat up a small internal heating element. The tip of the device is applied to the bite site to neutralize the itching sensation. And yes, it even comes with its own dedicated app.

How It Works

The Heat It device comes with an application for both iPhone and Android, making the process straightforward: download, install, and plug the device into your phone's USB-C port.

Once connected, the app opens automatically with a simple interface. Users select the treatment duration (short, medium, or long), specify whether the user is an adult or a child, and can even select a gentle option for sensitive skin before pressing Start. The device heats up, providing clear indicators of when to place it on the skin and when the cycle is complete.

Does it actually work? Testing confirms that it significantly reduces the sensation of itching from local and international mosquito bites alike. Priced at 115 NIS directly from the company's website, the device is highly portable and attaches easily to a keychain without requiring an internal battery.
