Israel's Ministry of Health issued a stern warning to consumers on Sunday following a joint sanitary inspection that revealed severe health violations and unsafe conditions at a local butcher shop in the country's south.

Inspectors from the Ministry of Health, accompanied by the municipal veterinarian for the Eshkol Regional Council, conducted a raid on the "Super Zol VeGadol" butcher shop located in the Avshalom Industrial Park. The inspection uncovered widespread disregard for public health regulations, including the operation of the business without a valid license.

According to the findings, the establishment engaged in unlawful meat handling practices, such as unauthorized freezing of fresh meat, uncontrolled defrosting of frozen products, and the grinding and seasoning of meat without permits or proper hygiene standards. Furthermore, a significant portion of the meat products lacked manufacturer labels or expiration dates, preventing any traceability regarding their origin and freshness.

Following the inspection, the district veterinary officer ordered the immediate destruction of approximately 53 kilograms of beef deemed hazardous and unfit for human consumption to prevent potential food poisoning outbreaks.

The Ministry of Health stressed that improper handling, unmonitored storage, and unauthorized thawing of meat and poultry products create ideal conditions for the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, posing severe health risks to consumers. Officials urged anyone who purchased unlabeled or suspicious beef products from the Avshalom establishment to discard them immediately.
