Gorbenko, Polonsky, and Minis Advance to European Championship Semifinals
The three athletes qualified for the next stage in Paris: Gorbenko finished first overall in the 200m individual medley, Polonsky eighth, and Minis advanced from 16th place in the 100m backstroke.
Another day of the European Swimming Championships in Paris began this morning (Friday), with the focus of the Israeli delegation on Anastasia Gorbenko, Lea Polonsky, and Tom Minis, who qualified for the semifinals.
Gorbenko and Polonsky qualified for the semifinal in the 200m individual medley. Gorbenko won her heat with a time of 2:11.87 minutes and advanced from first place in the overall ranking, while Polonsky finished second in her heat with 2:13.43 minutes, taking eighth place overall.
Minis also qualified for the semifinal in the 100m backstroke after finishing second in her heat with a time of 1:01.19 minutes, a result that secured her 16th place in the overall ranking.
In contrast, Daria Golovaty ended her run in the 50m freestyle, clocking 25.94 seconds and finishing eighth in her heat. Aviv Barzelay failed to qualify for the semifinal in the 100m backstroke after finishing sixth in her heat with a time of 1:02.00 minutes. Mark Taller was also eliminated in the 50m breaststroke after clocking 27.90 seconds.
Alongside the Israelis, French star Léon Marchand qualified for the semifinal in the 200m butterfly. Marchand won his heat with a time of 1:55.90 minutes and advanced to the next stage of the championship.
