Yair Golan's Party Reports Surge in Donations Following Sara Netanyahu Interview
The Democrats party reports 500,000 shekels in donations following Sara Netanyahu's controversial interview about Yair Golan. Both sides have exchanged pre-action legal warnings.
The Democrats party claims a significant surge in donations and volunteer registrations following an interview by Sara Netanyahu on Channel 14, in which she referenced party leader Yair Golan and his actions on the morning of October 7, 2023.
According to party figures, approximately half a million shekels in donations were received over the past week from supporters seeking to strengthen the party and Golan. The party also reported that around 3,000 new volunteers joined their ranks, forcing the organization to reinforce its call center to operate around the clock due to the high volume of inquiries.
Legal Battle and Lawsuit Against Sara Netanyahu
In parallel, the party is advancing a lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu through the Ardinst law firm, which is expected to be filed this week. Golan has already sent Netanyahu a formal warning letter prior to taking legal action, demanding a public apology and financial compensation to be donated to the survivors of the Nova festival massacre.
During her Channel 14 interview, Netanyahu hinted at a conspiracy theory regarding Golan's arrival at the combat zone on the morning of October 7. Her remarks sparked harsh reactions across the political spectrum, prompting Golan to announce legal measures against her.
Speaking at a New Year toast event in Beit Berl, Yair Golan addressed the attacks on his party:
"No one faces a toxic campaign like we do, but we are resilient and we will bring 15-plus mandates."
Golan also commented on the party's electoral list, stating: "We know every single person on our list; we will have no defectors." He added that the party will work intensively until October 27 to secure change, noting that their ultimate test will be in rebuilding.
Mutual Legal Threats and the Prime Minister's Stance
The legal dispute has since escalated into mutual threats. Following Golan's warning letter to Sara Netanyahu, she responded with her own legal notice, demanding that he remove publications, apologize, and pay 100,000 shekels to the Eli pre-military academy. Netanyahu threatened to file a one-million-shekel lawsuit if her demands are not met.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu distanced himself from claims of "treason from within." Addressing the controversy, he dismissed the notion of internal betrayal as "utter nonsense," though he maintained that there was a severe failure in the conduct preceding the October 7 attack.
