Gaza Division Intelligence Officer Evades Dismissal Three Years After Oct 7
Despite an IDF Chief of Staff order to dismiss the former Gaza Division intelligence officer over the October 7 failures, he continues to serve in the cyber array and collect a full salary.
Nearly three years after the October 7 massacre, Lieutenant Colonel A., the former intelligence officer for the Gaza Division, continues to serve in the IDF despite a formal dismissal order. IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir and Military Intelligence Directorate Head Major General Shlomi Binder previously determined that the officer bears direct responsibility for failing to transfer critical intelligence that could have prevented the disaster.
An independent inquiry led by Major General (Res.) Sami Turgeman concluded that the officer failed in his duties during the days and hours leading up to the Hamas attack. Following these findings, Chief of Staff Zamir decided to dismiss the officer from both active and reserve service. Head of the Manpower Directorate, Major General Dado Bar Kalifa, was tasked with implementing the dismissal.
Despite the directive issued months ago, the officer remains in uniform and holds a position within the IDF cyber array, a placement that also shields his name from public exposure. Military sources note that virtually all of the officer's direct commanders have already been removed from military service due to their failures ahead of October 7.
Every morning, the lieutenant colonel continues to drive his military vehicle to the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, collecting a full military salary as if no disciplinary decision had ever been made. Sources familiar with the matter emphasize that the officer is the son of a former general considered close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has publicly campaigned against establishing a state commission of inquiry into the disaster.
