Moshe Gafni Reacts Live on Air to Dramatic Removal From Party List
MK Moshe Gafni broke his silence in a surprise live radio interview on Kol Chai following his dramatic removal from the Degel HaTorah party list, stating he is doing well but keeping his political future ambiguous.
A day after the dramatic upheaval in the ultra-Orthodox "Degel HaTorah" party and the announcement of the end of MK Moshe Gafni's tenure on the party's list, radio host Menachem Toker surprised Gafni with a live phone call on Sunday on Radio Kol Chai to hear his reaction.
Toker called Gafni during the live broadcast without the veteran lawmaker's prior knowledge. "This is Menachem Toker live on air," the host said, quickly adding: "Just wanted to hear that you are doing well, Rabbi Gafni. We love you."
Gafni, sounding surprised by the call, replied briefly:
"I am fine, thank God. Everything is fine."
When asked about his state of mind following the dramatic decision, he refrained from elaborating, saying: "We will talk about it."
Toker attempted to extract a statement regarding his public future and whether he plans to continue in his role, but Gafni maintained ambiguity:
"God will help. We will speak more."
Even when Toker pressed for a "small scoop" and a simple yes or no answer, Gafni replied: "No, no, it's fine. We will talk." The conversation ended with Gafni repeating "thank God" before bidding the host farewell.
Immediately afterward, public figure Mordechai (Motke) Bloy, who was present in the studio, expressed surprise at Toker's ability to reach the politician directly, asking: "How did you get Rabbi Gafni's phone number?" Toker smiled and replied: "We know the right people," prompting Bloy to jokingly react: "You are a mobster."
