The FTSE index provider published its semi-annual update for Israeli equities within the framework of the Middle East and Africa index. The update will take effect at the close of trading on Thursday, September 17. At that time, FTSE-based ETFs will adjust their stock holdings according to the composition changes and relative weight adjustments.

Impact on Included Stocks

Five Israeli stocks are set to join the FTSE indices: Veridis, Misgav, Keystone, Rimon, and Scopio. ETFs are expected to purchase each of these shares for approximately ₪42-50 million during the closing auction on Thursday. In the week following the announcement, these five stocks rose by an average of 7.16%, while the TA-125 index posted a modest increase of 0.56%.

Analysis of Index Rebalancing Windows

Index rebalancing effects can be analytically divided into four distinct time windows:

  • Before the determining date: Trading based on preliminary forecasts.

  • After the determining date but before the announcement: Trading based on professional calculations.

  • Following the announcement: Repricing of newly public information.

  • On index implementation day: Trading against ETF supply and demand.

TA-35 Index Dynamics

The Tel Aviv 35 index currently includes 36 stocks following the fast-track inclusion of Palo Alto Networks in August. Demri, Shufersal, and Kenon are currently at risk of dropping out of the index if they fail to improve their market capitalization rankings before the upcoming cutoff date.
