Israeli Citizens Commended for Heroism on Flydubai Flight
Steven and Carol Moss, prominent Jewish philanthropists from Sydney, were aboard a Flydubai flight that narrowly averted a suspected terror attack. The incident involved an attempted hijacking by an Omani co-pilot, which was thwarted thanks to the extraordinary bravery of several passengers and the Indian captain.
President Herzog Recommends Medal for Heroism
President Isaac Herzog spoke with the Israelis who demonstrated exceptional courage during the flight and announced his intention to recommend them for the Presidential Medal for Civilian Heroism. Among those cited for their bravery are Dr. Shota Mussaiev, Yaniv Hayun, and Tali Mans, who raised the initial alarm.
"In moments when the lives of so many were in danger, you acted without hesitation, with extraordinary courage and resourcefulness," President Herzog told the heroes.
The Israeli embassy in Canberra confirmed that the Moss couple, whose family has deep roots in the Sydney Jewish community and ties to Tel Aviv University, were among the passengers on the distressed flight.
