Gloucestershire Police arrested several individuals on suspicion of explosives offenses following a security reinforcement at the Royal Air Force base in Fairford, which is utilized by the United States Air Force. British army bomb disposal experts are examining several vehicles in the area, and local residents have been evacuated.
The RAF Fairford base hosts the 501st Combat Support Wing and the 420th Air Base Squadron of the United States. According to the unit website, the base serves as the preferred forward operating location for bombers in Europe for the United States Air Force Global Strike Command. Security measures at the base have been significantly increased in recent days, featuring roadblocks and armed police restricting access.
A United States Air Force spokesperson stated that they are aware of the reports but will not discuss specific force protection measures. The Revolutionary Guard previously warned Britain that the base would be targeted if United States bombers continued conducting strikes from it against Iran.
