EU Bans Extra Carry-On Fees Starting October 2027
The EU has set October 23, 2027, as the deadline for new laws banning extra fees for carry-on trolley bags, mandating transparent upfront pricing for all airline passengers.
The European Union has set a strict deadline for new regulations that will ban airlines from charging extra fees for carry-on luggage. According to a report by the Daily Mail, starting October 23, 2027, airlines will no longer be allowed to display a baseline ticket price only to demand additional payment for a trolley bag later in the booking process.
The new rules guarantee passengers the right to bring a personal item such as a small bag or backpack on board free of charge, as confirmed by the European Parliament. Airlines, booking websites, and search engines will be legally required to show a transparent all-inclusive price from the very beginning of the search to allow fair comparison.
Published officially in the EU Journal this month, the regulation states that baseline prices must include both a personal item and cabin luggage, provided there is space. British passengers face uncertainty regarding these rules, which apply strictly to flights between EU airports, departures from the bloc, or flights operated by EU-based carriers.
