Ethiopian Forces Retake Tigray Region Following Rebel Surrender
Ethiopian forces have regained control of the Tigray region after TPLF rebels surrendered, following a failed offensive against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government.

Ethiopian authorities, supported by the national army, have managed to retake control of the northern Tigray region after rebels from the Tigray People's Liberation Front surrendered and were cleared from the area.
The TPLF, formerly the dominant ruling party in Ethiopia, is now facing a severe backlash from former supporters in the northern region. For many residents, the group's recent alignment with Eritrean forces revived painful memories of atrocities committed during the previous conflict.
Speaking to the press, a local resident stated that the alliance with Eritrean forces was a grave mistake, noting that the group lost backing both locally and among the diaspora. "The party has distanced itself from the people," she added.
The offensive began in late September when the TPLF joined allied armed groups in a sweeping campaign aimed at toppling the federal government led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. However, the assault was swiftly repelled by government forces utilizing armed drones, forcing the rebels to retreat into the hills.
