Elon Musk Warns Against Unchecked Immigration and Praises Israel's Pragmatism
Elon Musk discussed global security, unchecked immigration, and Israel's pragmatic defense strategies in an interview with Walter Isaacson, warning against extremist threats.
In a wide-ranging interview with biographer Walter Isaacson on "The Builders" web series, tech entrepreneur and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk addressed pressing global issues. Musk elaborated on his views regarding uncontrolled immigration, the rising threat of global jihad, and Israel's pragmatic approach to its hostile security environment.
Migration and Security Risks
Musk was questioned by Isaacson regarding immigration policies and cultural differences. He stated firmly that certain cultures hold worldviews completely opposed to Western values. "If you have a culture with views that are diametrically opposed to our culture—you can take Islam, for example. Obviously, there are many Muslims who are totally reasonable, but there are some who are not," Musk said.
He warned against the dangers of lax immigration screening, noting: "If you don't screen out jihadists, you're going to get jihadists, and they're going to do jihad and kill people."
Perspective on Israel
Drawing parallels to global security concerns, Musk praised Israel's pragmatic handling of existential threats. "The neighboring countries, many times in Israel, have tried to annihilate Israel. Not once—multiple times," Musk emphasized.
"In Israel, they realize if you let in the people that want to kill Israelis, they will do so."
He added that Israelis are realistic about the lethal consequences of opening borders to hostile actors, noting they remain pragmatic in preventing such infiltration.
Cultural Misunderstandings
Addressing deep ideological gaps, Musk criticized the assumption that "everyone is fundamentally the same." He explained that an average Westerner struggles to comprehend the mindset of religious extremists who view outsiders as mortal enemies.
To illustrate the proximity of these risks, Musk shared a tragic incident at Tesla's Austin factory, where an employee was fired after violently assaulting a female colleague who accidentally stepped on his prayer mat. Months later, that same individual murdered three students at a local Austin bar. "I think we shouldn't let people like that into the country," Musk concluded.
