Electra Wins 200 Million Shekel Contract for Pneumatic Waste System in Rehovot
Electra has secured a 200 million shekel contract to build and operate a pneumatic waste collection system in Rehovot, bringing its total portfolio in this sector to 1.3 billion shekels.
Electra has won a 200 million shekel contract to build and operate a pneumatic waste collection system in Rehovot, marking its eighth project in this field over the past five years. The cumulative scope of Electra's projects in this sector has now reached 1.3 billion shekels.
The project will be implemented in the Kedem district, planned for eastern Rehovot. The development plan spans approximately 2,230 dunams and includes about 8,400 housing units, alongside employment and commercial spaces, public buildings, educational institutions, a transportation terminal, and a cemetery. Construction work on the project is scheduled to begin later this year.
System Details and Operation
Under the project, Electra will design and build a pneumatic system comprising two separate terminals for the northern and southern parts of the neighborhood. Following construction, the company will be responsible for operating the system for 12 years. Pneumatic waste systems serve as an advanced alternative to conventional truck-based waste collection.
"We view this field as an additional growth engine for the company, as part of our strategy to expand operations in the energy and environment sectors," noted Electra CEO Itamar Deutscher.
In these systems, residents dispose of waste through dedicated openings located at public points within or outside buildings. The waste is transferred via underground pipes to central collection points, from which it is hauled for treatment or landfill. The system is controlled from a monitoring center, eliminating the need for manual waste collection by workers, aside from routine maintenance.

Rehovot Mayor Matan Dil stated that advanced urban development requires investing in smart, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure. He emphasized that the pneumatic system will help maintain a clean and pleasant public space for decades to come.
Electra's main competitors in this sector include Shikun & Binui, via its subsidiary Rictag, and Gaon Group. The win aligns with Electra's strategy to strengthen its operation, service, and maintenance sector, which generates steady recurring revenues following initial construction phases.
