Development in the investigation of the murder of Eldar Dayan: two additional suspects arrested
Two suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in a brawl that preceded the murder of Eldar Dayan. The two had been questioned in the past regarding the case and will be brought to court tomorrow for a hearing to extend their detention.
Development in the investigation: The Central Unit of the Sharon District police arrested two suspects today on suspicion of the murder of Eldar Dayan (of blessed memory). The two were previously detained and questioned at the Petah Tikva police station on suspicion of their involvement in a brawl, and they are expected to be brought to court tomorrow for a hearing to extend their detention.
As reported last week, the police are waiting for a report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine regarding the cause of death of Eldar Dayan, but admitted that "it is not certain that the report will advance the investigation." Meanwhile, the evidence against Dayan's friends, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, who were arrested almost three weeks ago and became suspects in the murder after his body was found, is only circumstantial. The police suspect that the two attacked Dayan near the open area, murdered him, and fled the scene.
The two provide a different version. According to them, Dayan was injured in his head in a brawl with five residents of Petah Tikva, which occurred before they arrived at the open area. They claim that after they noticed a police patrol car, they split up, and then Dayan disappeared. They assert that Dayan collapsed and died as a result of the blows he sustained to his head during the brawl.
Remains of Dayan's body were transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine the cause of death. However, even if it is determined that he died from a hemorrhage in his head, it will not be possible to know if the injury was caused by his friends or during the brawl. The police admit that the evidence against Peretz and Barberman is circumstantial, but they claim it may be enough to prosecute them for murder.
"There is no dispute that they were the last ones who were with him before he ended his life," said a police source. "In addition, in the footage from the security cameras at the gas station before his death, he appears healthy and whole."
