Dr. Kobi Barda, a historian of American politics, appeared on 103FM radio this morning to address the uproar surrounding the riots by Jews near the village of Qusra. According to him, "The Netanyahu of a few years ago would not have allowed the siege in Qusra to happen."
"In the US, they are asking themselves where this event came from? Where did it come from and where is it going? And these people believe that the lands in the West Bank are guaranteed and given to the people of Israel," Barda said.
He expressed shock at the rhetoric coming from the US administration:
"I was simply shocked when I saw this word - 'terrorists'. Yechiel Leiter says that we are losing the remnants of our good friends. It is a sloppy order of terrible conduct."
Yesterday, the IDF began clearing the siege on two houses in the village of Qusra (Area B) that had been imposed by a group of settlers. Dozens of individuals clashed with the army, dismantled fences, and blocked roads. The entire area was declared a closed military zone.
Commander of the Central Command, Avi Bluth, arrived at the scene to oversee operations, spoke with the Palestinians, and requested that the settlers leave and cease interfering with the army's efforts.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee denied reports today that the White House had intervened in the Qusra incident. However, Huckabee confirmed that he and the US Embassy in Jerusalem were directly involved and had appealed to Israeli authorities to take action on the ground.
