Request for a 2.5 million NIS lawsuit against Mifal HaPayis: "The draw was cancelled"
Due to negligent work by Mifal HaPayis that disrupted the draw results and caused thousands of bettors to lose money, the losers filed a request for a class action lawsuit against the company in court. Mifal HaPayis denied the claims.
Last week it was revealed that due to an embarrassing but very significant error for the bettors, the results of the Mifal HaPayis 'Chance' draw were disqualified. The disqualification occurred after negligence in the process of inserting the balls into the lottery machines, as they were not inserted in the prescribed order.
However, the bettors chose not to let it pass in silence, and this morning (Sunday) they filed a request for a class action lawsuit against Mifal HaPayis in the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court for the sum of 2.5 million NIS. The plaintiff, through attorney Yair Shafran, claimed in his request on behalf of all members of the group who participated in the disqualified draw that the money for the tickets went down the drain and that the payment of prize money was prevented due to the discarding of the winning tickets, according to a report by Channel 13.
In the request form, the court was asked to rule that "the draw is void from the outset, in light of the material defects that occurred in it, and that there was no place to validate its results retroactively by correcting the published result." Mifal HaPayis denied any connection to the malfunction in the draw as well as to the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Mifal HaPayis, attorney Benny Dreyfus, announced today to the board of directors his decision to end his tenure after 6.5 years as CEO.
