Contrary to the Attorney General's position: Itamar Ben Gvir will be able to participate in an appreciation event for police volunteers
The Deputy President of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Sohlberg, rejected the petition that sought to prevent the Minister of National Security from participating in the event.
The Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Judge Noam Sohlberg, rejected the petition that sought to prevent Itamar Ben Gvir from participating in the appreciation event for police volunteers and standby squads.
Sohlberg, sitting as Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, ruled contrary to the position of the Attorney General, who had stated in her opinion that a speech at the event might amount to election propaganda.
As part of the decision, Sohlberg advised that the remarks Itamar Ben Gvir will deliver at the event be submitted in advance to legal advisory authorities.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir said:
"Gali Baharav-Miara tried to stop us when we established the standby squads — and failed. Now she tried to prevent me from arriving and thanking them — and failed again. I have established over 1,000 standby squads, and this evening I will arrive to say thank you to the thousands of heroes who dedicate their time and risk their lives for the security of the citizens of Israel."
