Channel 14 Faces High Court Petition Over Alleged Wartime Security Breaches
Channel 14 faces a new High Court petition demanding a criminal investigation over alleged censorship violations and security breaches during wartime broadcasts.

Channel 14, originally established as a heritage channel and previously operating as Channel 20, was created to provide a platform for traditional and right-wing political values. Over the years, the channel has sparked widespread public and regulatory controversy, with critics arguing that it has adopted a sharp right-wing populist line. Critics claim the network serves as a propaganda tool and promotes polarizing discourse against the judiciary, security agencies, and opposition leaders.
The New Legal Front
The latest legal challenge comes from the Iron Swords Fighters Forum, which filed a petition with the High Court of Justice against law enforcement authorities and prominent channel figures, including Yinon Magal, Shimon Riklin, Yaakov Bardugo, Yehuda Schlesinger, and Tal Meir. The petitioners demand the opening of a criminal investigation under caution on suspicion of security offenses and the transmission of classified information, detailing over 13 severe censorship violations allegedly broadcast on the network.
According to the petition, the channel's hosts exposed intelligence collection assets in Gaza, detailed IDF troop positions in Lebanon, and hinted at future operations in Iran and the northern theater. Petitioners argue that these exposures compromised the element of surprise and endangered the lives of soldiers in the field.
Broader Legal Challenges
This petition is part of a series of legal storms surrounding the channel. In October 2026, the Tel Aviv Journalists Association published a petition demanding that the channel be barred from broadcasting news featuring coalition members, arguing it operates as a propaganda outlet violating election laws. Additionally, Yesh Atid previously petitioned to have the channel's broadcasts labeled as election propaganda, though the petition was dismissed by Central Election Committee Chairman Justice Isaac Amit.
Simultaneously, the High Court has been asked to address the boundaries of broadcast discourse during wartime. In May 2025, human rights organizations petitioned for investigations into Channel 14 on suspicion of incitement to violence and racism, citing numerous statements made by commentators following the October 7 events.
