"This is the piece of the puzzle I was missing": Katy Perry talks about her relationship with Justin Trudeau
The pop star reveals in a new interview the "hardest period" she experienced after her breakup with Orlando Bloom, responds to critics, and raves about the former Canadian Prime Minister: "I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life."

Katy Perry (41) released her new concert film this Wednesday. In honor of the occasion, she sat down for an interview with People magazine, where she opened up about everything—from the painful breakup with her long-time partner and father of her daughter, actor Orlando Bloom (49), in June 2025, to her partner of the last year, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
After nine years together, the pop star and Bloom called it quits. Now, she admits:
"It was probably the hardest period. All my friends were at home, hanging out together. I was crying and just felt distant. But then my angels stepped in and they were really there for me."
"I wouldn't have stayed in something for nine years if there weren't really important things I needed to learn. Every relationship is a lesson, right? I had to let go so I could move forward," she added regarding Bloom, before speaking about their 6-year-old daughter, Daisy.
According to Perry, it is important that her child sees her mother fulfilling her destiny and remains strong. At the same time, she clarified that the last year was truly difficult.
However, Perry has also recently faced backlash from the audience, particularly during her latest concert tour, where she was frequently labeled "cringe." "A lot of people have been attacking me endlessly. But I am living my life to the fullest," she shot back.
These days, those are problems of the past, while the present is smiling at her. Addressing her relationship with Trudeau, she gushed:
"I always wanted this epic and legendary love. I talked about it with my therapist: everything in my life is epic, but this was the missing piece of the puzzle—and then he appeared. I received the greatest gift from this tour: I was lucky enough to meet the love of my life."
According to Katy, the connection with the politician sparked when they met during a tour. "He knows the words to the songs, he supports me and admires me—it's very healing. He is truly a person who acts from the heart, and I think in that sense we are very compatible," she said. To seal the romance, Perry revealed that on her wish list, item number 10 was simply 'true love'—"and I think that is where we are at."
