"This bug is real": LeBron James' new passion has resulted in a 90-minute film
The NBA star has launched a new YouTube channel that will cover his journey into the world of golf. The first episode documented a trip to Scotland with his friends from Cleveland's championship season.
LeBron James continues to expand his activities outside the basketball court, this time with a new project dedicated to one of his latest passions: golf. The 41-year-old star, who recently signed with Philadelphia, has launched a new YouTube channel that will cover his journey into the world of golf.
The first video, published this past Saturday and lasting 96 minutes, documents a golf trip to Scotland with some of his teammates from the Cleveland Cavaliers who won the NBA championship in 2016. Among the participants were Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson, and Channing Frye, while Matthew Dellavedova and Iman Shumpert were also at the reunion but did not appear in the video.
The group played in a three-on-three format, while simultaneously reminiscing about Cleveland's historic championship, when they came back from a 3:1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors to win the title.
According to the plan, James will upload a new video once a month, with the channel combining golf, travel, food, wine, and conversations with friends.
"I look forward to people seeing the first episode, which was a trip of a lifetime with my teammates. We had fun playing golf and catching up in some of the most beautiful places I've ever been," James said.
James said that his love for golf developed quickly.
"The golf bug is real. For years I heard about it and said it wouldn't catch me. Now it's real. I'm in. My social media algorithm is full of golf videos," he said previously on his podcast.
In another interview, LeBron said that the game gives him both competitiveness and quiet. "It's incredibly challenging, but it's also an escape. It gives me a sense of calm and at the same time satisfies my drive to compete. I'm just angry that it took me 40 years to discover it." Alongside the entertainment side, James also stated that he wants to use golf to open doors for children from urban neighborhoods who are not always exposed to the sport. "My goal is to open doors for kids who look like me and grow up in the city," he said.
