Disaster in Africa: Dozens dead on crocodile-infested lake in Zimbabwe

At least 44 people have died after a passenger boat capsized yesterday, Tuesday, on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. 77 people have been rescued so far, and the search for additional passengers continues. The boat, named Mbuya Nehanda, was on its way from the Kariba area to fishing camps on the lake when it capsized.

A strong wave led to the capsizing

According to reports, the boat was hit by a strong wave and capsized during the voyage. Following the accident, extensive rescue operations began on the lake, with teams working to locate additional passengers and recover bodies from the water.

According to local authorities, the boat was carrying at least 114 adult passengers and five crew members. This is despite the fact that its stated capacity was only 90 passengers. Authorities noted that there may have been children on board who did not require a ticket, and therefore the exact number of people on board remains unclear.
