At 83 years old, American Airlines flight attendant Carol Feyre has officially hung up her wings after an unprecedented 63 and a half years in the skies. Her final flight, American Airlines Flight 733 from London to Charlotte, concluded at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where dozens of people gathered with signs, flowers, and old photographs to honor her remarkable career.

Reflecting on her historic milestone upon landing, Feyre shared her emotions with the welcoming crowd. A little girl from east Tennessee who started at age 19, she never dreamed her journey would reach such heights.

Feyre’s aviation career began in 1963 at the age of 19. What initially started as a temporary job evolved into a lifelong vocation that spanned more than six decades, earning her the top spot in seniority among American Airlines' workforce of approximately 30,000 flight attendants. In 2008, she was inducted into the North Carolina Transportation Hall of Fame.

Recalling her early expectations, Feyre noted that her original plan was to fly for six months, get married, and move on. Instead, a passion for the skies kept her working for over half a century, with the secret to her longevity being a genuine love for the profession.

Her career also intersected with local aviation history. On June 15, 1987, Feyre served as a crew member on Piedmont Airlines' inaugural flight from Charlotte to London, a milestone that transformed the city into an international aviation hub. Nearly 40 years later, her final flight retraced that very same route from London back to Charlotte.

Now transitioning to retirement on solid ground, Feyre looks forward to spending time at home, where her cat, Micky, awaits her after years of sharing her with the skies.
