Security breach at the Knesset: stranger infiltrates building
A serious security failure at the heart of the government: an unknown individual passed through two checkpoints at night and was apprehended inside. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana has ordered an urgent investigation into the lapses.
A special investigation has been launched following a serious security failure that occurred tonight at the Knesset building. Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana instructed the Knesset officer to immediately establish an inspection team led by an investigating officer, which will thoroughly examine the failures that allowed a stranger to infiltrate the structure and pass through two security gates before being arrested.
The incident began outside the complex, when Ministry of Foreign Affairs security guards identified a person who arrived at the Bank of Israel area and asked them how to get to the Knesset. Following the alert passed to the Knesset Guard, security cameras were reviewed, revealing a worrying picture: the man had already managed to pass the checkpoints and was inside the building.
Around 02:00, Knesset Guard forces were scrambled to the scene after identifying a suspicious figure near the screening facility. Security personnel located the suspect and arrested him inside the building, as he was sitting not far from the Speaker's office.
Field interrogation revealed that the individual suffers from mental instability. He was transferred to police custody and subsequently placed under supervision in a medical institution. Meanwhile, the Knesset's security system is treating the incident with gravity; the scheduled inspection will focus on the timeline of events, the performance of the security guards on the ground, and the critical question of how the individual managed to bypass secured perimeters without being stopped.
