Itamar Ben Gvir Proposes Firearms for All IDF Veterans to Combat Crime
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir proposed giving firearms to all IDF veterans during a podcast appearance, defending his distribution of gun-shaped keychains amid legal challenges.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced his plan to distribute firearms to every Israeli military veteran during an interview on Mako's "Election Tour" podcast with social media personality Lidor Madmoni, asserting that the policy would combat crime.
Addressing criticism over distributing gun-shaped keychains to high school students, Ben Gvir defended the initiative. "Everyone needs a weapon. In the next term, I want to give a weapon to everyone who served in the IDF," he stated, adding that he takes pride in issuing 300,000 gun licenses.
Madmoni challenged the minister by comparing the vision to the video game GTA 6, but Ben Gvir rejected the comparison. "I am bringing a normal reality. We are in the Middle East. Weapons save lives," he said.
Meanwhile, the Israel Religious Action Center filed a petition to the Central Election Committee chairman demanding an injunction against Ben Gvir and the "Otzma Yehudit" party to halt the distribution of the promotional keychains bearing the slogan "Weapons save lives."
