Ben Affleck revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that his teenagers frequently humble him when he attempts to offer relationship advice, reminding him of his past marriages.
When it comes to giving relationship advice, some parents might feel confident, but Ben Affleck recently learned that his teenagers have a very different perspective. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 54-year-old actor shared how his kids quickly humble him whenever he tries to play the dating expert.
A Dinner Table Reality Check
Affleck recalled a recent family dinner where he attempted to offer his perspective on someone else's relationship dynamics. "I said, 'Well, the thing about that relationship with this person is...'" Affleck recounted. He shared that his 17-year-old daughter immediately turned to him and retorted, "Oh, as if you're the relationship expert?"
The actor admitted that his attempts to guide and educate his children often turn into a group effort of eye-rolling. He noted that it is no longer just one teenager giving him attitude, but rather a collective exchange of knowing glances between his kids as soon as he starts lecturing.
Navigating Past Relationships
It is perhaps unsurprising that his children keep him grounded, considering Affleck's highly publicized romantic history. The actor married Jennifer Garner in 2005, and the couple shares three children: Violet, 20, Finn, 17, and Samuel, 14, before officially divorcing in 2018. Shortly after, Affleck rekindled his romance with Jennifer Lopez, leading to a high-profile wedding in 2022 and a subsequent divorce in 2024.
Reflecting on his split from Lopez in a previous interview with GQ, Affleck maintained that there was no dramatic soap opera or scandal behind the separation. Meanwhile, he remains on excellent terms with Garner, revealing that he even considered casting her in his upcoming film Animals, a role that ultimately went to Kerry Washington. Affleck emphasized that he would love to collaborate with his ex-wife in the future, describing her as a great friend.
