Apple Plans Split 2027 iPhone Releases and 20th Anniversary Redesign
Apple is reportedly planning a split iPhone launch schedule for 2027, introducing the iPhone 18 series in spring and a redesigned 20th-anniversary iPhone 20 Pro in autumn.

Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul of its iPhone release schedule for 2027, splitting device launches between spring and autumn to mark the 20th anniversary of the iconic smartphone line. According to industry leaks and expert estimates, the tech giant will transition to a bifurcated release model starting with the iPhone 18 series.
Spring 2027: iPhone 18, 18e, and Air 2
The spring lineup is expected to feature the base iPhone 18, the budget-focused iPhone 18e, and the ultra-thin iPhone Air 2. The standard iPhone 18 will debut in the spring for the first time, powered by the A20 processor. Industry reports suggest upgrades including increased RAM, improved thermal dissipation, and Apple's proprietary C2 modem. The starting price is projected to remain at $899.
The iPhone Air 2 will introduce a broader camera array, incorporating an extra wide lens—a feature that reportedly delayed its initial roadmap. Additionally, the device is expected to transition to the C2 modem, feature a battery capacity reaching 3,500 mAh (a roughly 10% improvement over its predecessor), and boast a narrowed Dynamic Island.
Autumn 2027: iPhone 20 Pro and Duo 2
Skipping the numerical designation '19' entirely, Apple is rumored to launch the iPhone 20 Pro in autumn 2027 to celebrate two decades since the original device shipped in 2007. Leaks point to a radical redesign featuring an all-glass chassis with quad-curved edges, ultra-thin bezels, and the potential retirement of the flat-sided frames used since the iPhone 12.
The flagship device is slated to include an under-display Face ID system paired with a punch-hole selfie camera, significantly shrinking the Dynamic Island footprint. Under the hood, prototypes point to the A21 Pro chip, a C3 cellular modem, an N1 wireless chip supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, up to 16GB of RAM, and a silicon-anode battery. The estimated starting price for the anniversary edition is $1,299 and above.
Simultaneously, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone Duo 2, continuing its foldable device portfolio. While concrete technical specifications remain scarce as the first-generation foldable device continues to experience high global demand and pre-order shipping delays stretching into January, anticipation for Apple's next hardware chapter remains exceptionally high.
