Senior AI researcher Andrew Tulloch has left Meta after less than a year in the role. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Tulloch resigned on Wednesday without providing a reason for his decision. Tulloch is considered a leading figure in his field. He previously worked at Meta for 11 years before leaving in 2023 to co-found the startup Thinking Machines Lab with former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Last October, reports indicated that Meta attempted to recruit him back with a compensation and bonus package valued at up to $1.5 billion. While he initially declined, Tulloch joined Meta several months later. Tulloch announced his departure just a day after Meta launched a mainstream AI agent capable of sending emails, shopping online, and completing other tasks for users as part of the company's efforts to close the gap with competitors such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Neither Tulloch nor Meta commented on the report. Tulloch is the third co-founder of Thinking Machines to change positions in recent weeks, following Bart Zoph and Luke Metz.
