Jordanian Groups Call to Boycott Andrea Bocelli's Petra Concert Over Israel Support
Pro-Palestinian groups in Jordan are demanding the cancellation of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli's upcoming concert in Petra over his past support for Israel.
Pro-Palestinian organizations in Jordan have called for a boycott of the upcoming concert by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, scheduled for next month in the ancient city of Petra, citing his long-standing public support for Israel. Bocelli's historic ties to Israel and his 2022 concert in Tel Aviv have drawn fierce backlash from activist groups in the region.
Organizers from the BDS movement in Jordan urged the public not to buy tickets and demanded the cancellation of the November 27 event, which is part of Bocelli's Romanza 30th-anniversary world tour. Critics argue that Petra should not host an artist who has previously raised funds for the Israeli military or performed in the country despite boycott appeals.
Despite the controversy, local tourism officials defended the concert as a major cultural milestone. Suha Bawab, general manager of the organizing association, stated that the performance will showcase Jordan's unique heritage and strengthen its global standing as a premier cultural destination.
