Amazon Enters the Smart Lock Market

Amazon has officially unveiled its first-ever smart lock, the Ring Smart Lock, addressing one of the most common anxieties among users: dead batteries and network failures. Priced at 249.99 dollars and slated for a US release in early 2027, the new device brings innovative mechanical and connectivity features to the smart home ecosystem.

Innovative Power Solutions and Connectivity

Unlike traditional smart locks that leave users stranded when batteries fail, the Ring Smart Lock features a manual kinetic dial. Users can simply rotate the dial to generate emergency power, allowing them to unlock the door without relying on physical keys or calling a locksmith.

The simple yet brilliant kinetic mechanism theoretically solves the ultimate anxiety of smart lock owners.

Furthermore, the lock bypasses standard home Wi-Fi issues by integrating with Amazon Sidewalk. This proprietary internal network syncs the lock with other Amazon devices in the household—such as security cameras, smart speakers, and video doorbells—ensuring seamless operation even during local network outages.

Market Availability

While the 249.99 dollar device offers compelling features for the US market, compatibility with standard Israeli security doors remains uncertain. Local consumers will have to wait for an adapted version or hope regional smart lock manufacturers adopt similar kinetic emergency features.
