Julian Alvarez scored the winning goal for Atletico Madrid against Deportivo La Coruna, using the moment to apologize to fans for trying to leave the club in the summer. The Argentine striker netted in the 48th minute, securing three crucial points that move the Colchoneros within two points of Barcelona ahead of Sunday El Clasico at Camp Nou.

During the World Cup, Alvarez made it clear he wanted to leave Atletico, with Barcelona as his preferred destination. This attempt to force a move to the Catalan club sparked widespread anger among Atletico supporters, leading to jeers at the Metropolitano stadium this season.

"I want to apologize to our fans for what I said during the World Cup," Alvarez stated. "I was wrong in how I expressed myself and in the timing. I understand the fans and their anger, especially given the support I have received since arriving. Now is the time to work and give everything I have."

Diego Simeone warmly accepted the player's apology. "I have great respect for people who ask for forgiveness, as it is not easy," the Atletico coach said. "I am very happy for him. When someone says such things, it is because they truly mean it. We need him at his best."
