Widow of October 2023 Alexandria Attack Victim Passes Away After Three Years
Mor Shamli, whose husband Alon was killed in an Alexandria shooting attack on October 8, 2023, has died after three years of profound grief, becoming the fifth victim.
Mor Shamli, 35, the widow of Alon who was killed before her eyes in Egypt on October 8, 2023, has become the fifth victim of the shooting attack after passing away following more than three years of profound mental anguish.
The tragic incident took place in Alexandria a day after the Hamas massacre, as Israel was still reeling from the atrocities and working to eliminate remaining terrorists. An Egyptian policeman opened fire with his weapon at a group of Israeli tourists near Pompey's Pillar, a famous Roman triumphal column in Egypt's second-largest city. Alon Shamli and Amnon Bezalel were pronounced dead at the scene, and about ten days later, Hagai Efrat succumbed to his wounds. Egyptian tour guide Sayed Kamal al-Hawalka was also killed in the attack.
In the wake of the tragedy, diplomatic relations between Israel and Egypt have significantly deteriorated. No Israeli ambassador is currently stationed in the country, and relations remain severely strained as no formal justice has been served against the perpetrator over three years since the attack.
