Adidas Running Sales Jump 19% as New York Marathon Awaits
Adidas’ running division revenue rose 19% in the third quarter, driven by eight wins by athletes wearing its shoes in World Marathon Majors events. The company heads into Sunday’s New York Marathon with Benson Kipruto aiming to defend his title.

Adidas is riding a strong wave in elite distance running and is looking to carry that momentum into the New York Marathon on Sunday. Athletes wearing the company’s shoes have recorded eight wins this year in the prestigious World Marathon Majors series, and the on-track success is translating into a significant sales lift, at the expense of long-time rival Nike.
According to Reuters, Adidas’ running division revenue jumped 19% in the third quarter. The gains come as the marathon segment benefits from a boom, with more and more runners—professionals and amateurs alike—willing to spend hundreds of dollars on advanced shoes.
New York Marathon: Kipruto’s title defense
In New York, Adidas will try to secure another victory through Benson Kipruto, who will attempt to defend his title. Kipruto joined the company a decade ago and since then has won, among others, the Chicago and Tokyo marathons, as well as an Olympic bronze medal in Paris.
