Adam Brody Calls Gaza War 'Genocide' in New Interview
Actor Adam Brody, star of Netflix's 'Nobody Wants This', has publicly called the war in Gaza a 'genocide' and voiced support for a free Palestine in a new interview with GQ magazine.
Adam Brody, the Jewish star of Netflix's hit series "Nobody Wants This", has publicly addressed the war in Gaza for the first time, describing it as "genocide". In an interview with GQ magazine, Brody stated: "Put me down as someone who thinks it's a genocide. Put me down as someone who wants a free Palestine."
The statement came during an interview focusing on Brody's political activism ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. The actor, who has volunteered since 2018 with the progressive organization Swing Left, shared that he recently spent a weekend going door-to-door in Temecula, California, speaking with voters in a competitive district. When asked how the war between Israel and Hamas intersects with his political activism, he admitted that until now, it has rarely come up.
Brody, who plays Noah Roklov—the "hot rabbi" who reignited his status as one of television's most talked-about figures—noted that while he has discussed the issue privately, he has avoided public commentary. Prompted by the interviewer, he openly expressed his stance, adding that he hopes a different administration can enact better policies to alleviate the suffering.
His remarks stand out particularly against the backdrop of his public identity and the role that brought him back to the center stage. Brody, a self-described atheist Jew, rose to fame in the early 2000s as Seth Cohen in the cult series "The OC". In "Nobody Wants This", he stars alongside Kristen Bell as a devoted young rabbi who falls in love with Joanne, a non-Jewish podcast host. Series creator Erin Foster previously stated that she deliberately chose not to address geopolitical issues in the show, making Brody's political statement noteworthy ahead of the third season's release.
Brody explained that his views had rarely been heard before because he does not maintain active public social media accounts, does not wear political pins, and has not signed prominent petitions regarding the conflict. He joins a relatively small group of notable Jewish actors who have publicly used the term "genocide" regarding Gaza, including Wallace Shawn and "Hacks" star Hannah Einbinder.
