"30,000 soldiers voted for Shas": Solberg ordered Deri to remove the propaganda video

The Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, ordered today, Sunday, the Shas party and its chairman, MK Aryeh Deri, to remove an election propaganda video they published yesterday.

In the video published on behalf of the Shas party, a religious soldier is seen making his way home on the eve of the Sabbath, while his family waits for him for Kiddush. At the end of the video, a caption appears stating that 30,000 soldiers voted for Shas in the last elections, followed by a ballot slip with the party's letters.

The "Yashar!" party, led by Gadi Eizenkot, filed a petition against the video and claimed, among other things, that it violates the prohibition on using the IDF in election propaganda as well as the prohibition on using the letters of a candidate list before the 42nd day prior to the elections.

Solberg determined that the chances of the petition justify issuing a temporary injunction and ordered Shas and Deri to remove the video from all their social media accounts. In addition, he ordered them to respond to the petition within two days.

According to the Election Law (Propaganda Methods), it is forbidden to use the IDF in election propaganda in a way that might create the impression that the army is identified with a party or a candidate list. The law also prohibits the use of a letter designating a candidate list in election propaganda, except for the period of 42 days before election day.
